Happy New Year!

So I took a reading break... but I am back!

I am currently reading Mind Sweeper . So far it is pretty good.  It is a paranormal story with some romance thrown in.  Update will be provided when I am done.

So I read the following book:

At Any Price (Gaming the System Book 1)

It is the first in a series and I am on the fence about the second one. Although I loved this book, the conflict was great and I could relate to things the characters were discussing, I am not sure where else they can go with the storyline.

Mia, the main character, is a gamer.  I really liked her character and the fact that she plays a large game and does things like I do when I play WoW.  It is a really good representation of some of the female gamers our there.

I can say that I had an idea of what the twist would be about half way through the book, but I kept reading.  I think that it added to the story that I felt what was coming.

I enjoyed the book. It was a quick and easy read, but I am not sure if I want to do the next two.  Maybe, I will have to decide later on I guess.

Next up... I have a couple that I have on my list:

Nice Dragons Finish Last

Hansel: An Erotic Fairytale

I have 3 others but these are on my list for next.

Once I decide and finish I will update.

Change of direction

I am going to change direction of my blog.

I read a lot.  When I say a lot, I mean a whole lot. So I think I am going to start reviewing the books that I read.  If you want to listen, please do.  If not, that is ok too.

I read a lot of indie books and I focus a lot on romance.

So here we go:

This week, on vacation,  I read a trilogy.  It started out with the free book and then I just had to buy the other two.  I am not big on the novella books that are in between so I just read the three main books.

The Darkest Minds Book 1

The Darkest Minds: Never Fade

In the Afterlife (Darkest Minds Book 3)

This book is a YA book with some supernatural elements to it.  The series follows Ruby, who has additional Psi abilities and her journey from the beginning of the outbreak to a pretty interesting finale. It is rare that I can find a book that makes me laugh out loud and be so vested in the characters that I actually cry during parts of the story.

Book 1 was great.  It kept me interested and by the end of the book, I had a vested interest in all of the characters.  The character development was spot on.  I really enjoyed the descriptions and the way that everyone was described.  Liam, Chubs, Zu, and Ruby go on a journey of discovery.  This first book builds Ruby from a shy character into a much stronger person.  You can see cracks in her that make her feel real.  By the end of the book, I wanted to read more and find out what happened.  I was really glad that all three of the books were available at the same time as I hate to wait for a trilogy.

Book 2 developed and focused on Ruby and develops her abilities and strength further. It lets us see who she is now working with and introduces some great new characters.  There are not too many characters that you can't keep up and just enough to keep you interested. The way that previous characters were introduced was believable in this fantasy world.  I loved the way that it was written and concluded. I couldn't wait to see what happened next and actually spent the money for book 3.

Book 3 was a great conclusion.  Sometimes when you read a trilogy, book 3 can fall flat or not live up to your expectations.  The conflict was great, the resolutions better. I really liked how the book built and developed and showed each character's flaws and strengths.  I loved the way it went forward and didn't stop until the end.  I wanted to just keep reading and not put it down, but alas, I had to get to bed.  I really felt the characters and their pain and their joys.  This was a book that I wished had an epilogue.
